The Bar Harbor Story continued
Chapter Three - The New Bar Harbor
How times flies. It has been almost 70 years since Big Bar Harbor was
built, it has been gone for more than 35 years and even Little Bar Harbor is 40
years old!! The summer population has continued to grow and the Anderson
family decided that once again it was time to revitalize their beloved Bar
Harbor. A full year was required to plan the new facility and
coordinate the plans with City and State authorities. Building a
commercial waterfront structure that conforms to all the new regulations is not
a piece of cake!!
Finally, in the fall of 2003 construction began in earnest. The New Bar
Harbor incorporates the original Cape Cod design used by Erv Anderson for the
Big Bar Harbor, but also includes the popular charcoal grill and patio area so
loved by the patrons of Little Bar Harbor. Mark Cross, architect from
Kuepers Construction of Baxter expertly listened to our dreams and designed a
structure that should proudly carry the Bar Harbor name across many more
decades.
The highlight of the building is the new lighthouse, which
holds a nautical gift shop. Stop in and check all the great nautical and
Bar Harbor logo merchandise.

The
new facility increases seating and provide facilities for private
parties and banquets. The party room can be separated by means of a
working mast and sail. When you book a party at Bar Harbor you can watch
us "lower the boom". A larger bar and lounge is also
included and will continue our tradition of offering live entertainment.
The New Bar Harbor opened for business on 4-29-04.
